The Zentangle involved almost all elements in art because you had to not only focus on the shape of you lines, but also try give them varied forms and appear to have texture. There was also the use of negative and positive space and value, but no color. Some of the principles of design that were used included harmony and balance within the patterns and contrast in each different section. You also had to create a uniform rhythm across the piece. The zentangle helped me to create overlapping patterns and better understand the elements of art.

Assignment 7
Modified Contour Drawing of a Pinecone Cross Hatching and Hatched Pincone
Elements of Art Poem- Assignment 5 The value of a line Can be determined by its texture and shape The color of its space is shown in its true form
Project 1: modified Gyotaku print -I used mostly pinks and reds for my print because I liked the warm feel they gave and also the pale pink background worked well with the bright reds and pinks of the colored pencils. The colors gave the picture an overall calm feel and not at all harsh. -The process of making the modified print began by carefully coating the rubber fish with water color. After printing the rubber fish onto rice paper and letting it dry completely, use colored pencils(prisma pencils look best) and watered colored pencils to add detail and correct any mistakes that were made in the print making process. By adding the colored pencil it makes it more unique and personal to the artist. I feel successful with this project because I was able to add detail with different colors to the fish and make it look like something i would make. -A self directed learner is a student who listens and takes in the teacher's advice but then is able to be responsible and self controlled so that they complete the task at hand with 100% effort. I feel that I am becoming a well organized self directed learner because I am able to complete my assignments in the way the teacher assigned but also be creative and put forth my best effort when doing the projects. I also try to clean up after myself and put drawing tools and paint brushes in the proper place when I am done.
Assignment 8: Preposterous Crosslinks
Project 2: Water Color Painting
Assignment 10: ECU Trip Reflection
The trip to East Carolina University gave me a better understanding of what it takes to be an artist, the many possibilities within art and what it takes to get into college. The many departments of art encouraged my creativity and I was very impressed with the talents of all of the college students. The photography section was my favorite section because of the dark room and the old fashioned ways the students created photographs.
Assignment 11: Art 2 Water Color Family
Assignment 12: Drawing With Substitute
Assignment 13: Japanese Marbling
Assignment 14: Book Binding-Simple
Assignment 15: Tortoise Shell Binding
The book binding project taught concentration and patience, especially the tortoise shell. The first part of making both books was marbling. It may look easy but you had to work with colors and mixing in order to create a desirable mix. Sometimes the marbling was messed up because of the large amounts of water on the paper. After marbling the student had to properly complete the book binding. The tortoise binding required the most patience because it was more complicated, but the final product looked great.
